Script Writing
This script is a news report created for our SCCB News broadcast. My thought process centred on taking national issues and connecting them back to the lived experience of people in the West Midlands all while keeping a neutral and unbiased tone.
Even though this project was based on factual and real life events, what I'm most passionate about is screenwriting. I love stories with strong emotional journeys and complex character arcs. This project helped me practise structure but my goal is to write narrative scripts that explore identity, humanity and deeper personal transformation.
Directing
I directed our SCCB News segment, guiding the overall flow of the script and ensuring the presenters delivered their lines clearly. As floor director, I coordinated timing, called out countdowns and kept the communication between the studio and control room smooth to ensure each take matched the professionalism we aimed for.
Movie Reviews
I have a Letterboxd account where I share my thoughts on every film I watch. Sometimes I give full length reviews but most of the time I like to just talk about how a film made me feel which is what is most important to me. Here are some thoughts from a few of my favourite films.
Moonlight
Dir. Barry Jenkins
“I Cry So Much, Sometimes I Feel Like Imma Just Turn Into Drops”
To finally see my favourite film on the big screen is a moment I will never forget. Man, do yourself a favour if Moonlight is playing at your local cinema, go watch it.
The beauty of this film is unparalleled, Barry Jenkins manages to convey several complex themes like identity, masculinity and broken homes with such care in what could be three short films. The second part of this film contains many similar experiences and emotions I dealt with growing up, it’s almost as if Jenkins took a camera into my memories at one point. My favourite aspect of moonlight is the way Chirons vulnerability is portrayed, it’s subtle but very effective and remains consistent with each of the three actors.
If you know me you know how much I hold this film close to my heart, as a cinema lover it’s the first film I will always recommend you to watch. The direction, the colour palate, the score and the performances are all beyond masterful and it will forever be remembered as one of the most deserved best picture winners.
Everything Everywhere All At Once
Dir. The Daniels
“In another life, i would have liked just doing laundry and taxes with you”
My last rewatch before the oscars tomorrow. I have nothing else to say other than how much this silly film means to me, it was the kick starter for some serious conversations I needed to have with my family and I would never of found the right words or the courage to have them without this film. I will never forget that feeling I had when the credits rolled for the first time and realising I just witnessed something life changing, it found me at such a crucial moment in my life. It’s been so satisfying watching it sweep this awards season, to call this film a best picture winner would be everything!
A Ghost Story
Dir. David Lowery
"I don't think they're coming"
A Ghost Story follows a classic white sheet ghost with holes for eyes moving through time. Unless you've seen the film, you will understand when I say the Ghosts in this film somehow have a haunting yet also comforting presence haha. It's a simple story yet it tackles some really heavy topics about death, grief and acceptance. I found its portrayal of death quite unique and creative, as it's not something so final in this film.
I feel you have to be in the right state of mind to digest this movie, so if you are not fully invested by the first 10 minutes you probably going to find it boring. It’s a slow burner which makes sense because we are following the POV of the dead, hence the long sequences without dialogue and immense silence.
Still the beautiful cinematography still conveys so much and the occasional background score. Life is fragile and A Ghost Story captured that perfectly.
